Centre for Performing Arts (CPArts) is currently conducting a project on Sculpturing and Painting in the 4 Tsunami-affected areas in the South with help from Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery (TMAG). The objectives of the project is to teach Tsunami-affected children and youths the importance of and skills for producing traditional artworks; and, to support the long-term survival of traditional practices and artwork specific to each region and To give tsunami-affected children and youth an opportunity to express themselves creatively.

CPArts is holding 2 visual arts workshops, one painting and one sculpting, in each of the 4 centres per month. External expertise are use to conduct class. Mr. Kusal Nandana and Mr. Vasantha, artist from Vibhavi Institute and both are conducting the painting classes. Mr. Wimal is conducting Sculpture classes and he is a President Award winner in Sculpturing.

The children and youths will learn how to produce traditional arts according to their culture and the workshops cater for approximately 20 children and 15 youths in district from Galle, Matara, Galle and Panadura tsunami resettlement village, or at the CPA centre. The children and youths involved those who were directly affected by the tsunami and living in the resettlement villages. Due to the tense situation we are awaiting to implement this project in the North and East in due course.
