In December 2005, all CPArts centres conducted special events including CPArts Day, Christmas Day and the first anniversary of Tsunami. These programmes were partly a prayer service for peace and hope. CPArts children, youth and adults, especially women, took part enthusiastically in all programmes. Here are some highlights:

Christmas Celebration

CPArts Anurhadapura celebrated Christmas day atKorakaweva Sri.Sarananda Temple, Pandulugama, in a grand scale. Though there were no Christians living in the proximity, they had invited Christian foreigners who were staying in the nearest hotel. The event was presided by Anuradhapura CPArt’s advisor Rev. Mewellawv Dhammakiththi Thero. This was the first time a Cristmas celebration had taken place in that area.

CPArts Jaffna celebrated Christmas day organizing a carols programme on 18th December, at Jaffna CPArt’s open air stage. Eleven catholic parishes fromJaffna dioceses participated in the event with CPArts members. About 700 people participated in the event. All songs were composed and music played by Jaffna CPArt’s music unit and directed by Mr.Jesudhasan.

First year anniversary of Tsunami

CPArts organized programme to mark the first anniversary of Tsunami on 26th December 2005.

On 26th December 2005, CPArts Batticaloa opened a children’s park at Kallady, Batticaloa, it was ceremoniously opened at 8.45 am by Mr.S. Navanithan, Urban Council Commissioner of Batticaloa. 200 people present in that ceremony. The children from Kallady, Thruchchendur and Mugaththuvaram villages will benefit by this park. Pfarrei St. Martin. Egerkingen,Switzerland funded for this children’s park. This is the first children’s park available in that area

CPArts Monaragala conducted a full day prayer service at Ahanapallama, Sri Sudharshanaramaya Temple, Welawaya to remember the impact of the disaster.

100 people were brought from a Tsunami camp at Kirinda, Hambantota. The prayer service was conducted by Rev. Morapitiya Nandasara Thero. CPArts Monaragala members organized almsgiving for the participants.

On 15th December 2005, CPArts Jaffna conducted a Bhajan (Religious) service to remember Tsunami victims and for the peace. The purpose of this programme was to focus on peace and to help the traumatized people affected by Tsunami. All the participants carried candles and130 participants joined in the procession from CPArt’s ‘Kalaithuthu” hall to the open air stage. This was followed by a prayer services.
