Commemorating CPArts Day

On the 3rd December 2007 we celebrated CPArts Day through programmes reinforcing the ideals embodied in our Mission and Vision statements as well as the key objectives of CPArts.

In Colombo, these programmes took place at our new office in Kotahena. Several items of entertainment were staged to mark the occasion.

Our Director Rev Fr Saveri graced the occasion at which he also recognised and rewarded the dedication and service of several senior CPArts members through the conferring of the title of “Kalai Gnana Thepam”. The rewarded members are:

  • Arul M Rajendran
  • C Maniccavasagar
  • A Genova
  • Ambrose Peter

Unforgettable

This is the only word we need use to describe the experience of participants at the International Summit of Religious Leaders held in Jaffna on the 12th and 13th of December 2007.

The auditorium of the Public Library, Jaffna was the venue for this event, which featured a welcome dance and an item of mime titled “Invisible Wall”, performed by children from CPArts centres. The latter item dealt with the agony brought on by war – a topic so sadly relevant in our country today.

Flying Sparrows

It is an universal dream shared by mankind…to build a world that allows the child to “soar in flight”…to fulfil their dreams and aspirations for a full life lived in dignity and unity, untouched by the ravages of war and want.

Aptly themed “Flying Sparrows”, a Peace Camp for children was organised and conducted by our Batticaloa cluster on the 14th, 15th and 16th December 2007, at the Buddhi Cultural Hall, Polonnaruwa.

180 children from the districts of Polonnaruwa, Batticaloa and Trincomalee took part.

Many unique items were presented at the camp. “Speak through Colours” encouraged children to express their feelings through art and the use of colour. Their work was then presented to the parents present.

The famous resource persons who led the event were Kusal Nandana Gunasekera and Chandana Vasantha.

On the second day of the Camp, the children were eager participants in drama training. They learnt the use of voice, body movement and stage balance.

The entire event was telecast by Young Asia TV.

The guests of honour were the Ven Poojya Dharmapala Thero, the Chief Incumbent of Jayanthipura Viharaya, Mr Sarma, a member of the Hindu clergy and the Divisional Secretary of Kathuruwela Village.

Our Polonaruwa CPArts Co-ordinator Mrs. Sriyani and the Batticaloa cluster leader Mr. Valluwan Swaminathar were also feted at this event for the yeoman service they render to CPArts.
